When we begin doing the things we know intellectually are going to be helpful for us, typically we experience some sort of trigger – thoughts, feelings, emotions – that will rise up and start to talk.
Something that we want everyone to come back to is, “What is the truth?’.
What has been the truth of your experience and what’s been the fruit of ignoring your needs and just doing what everyone else is doing?
When the thoughts start coming, “Everybody is watching me eat that.”
“They’re all going to reject me.”
“If I eat that food, I’m going to gain weight.”
All these thoughts leave us with feelings of shame and fear.
And fear and shame are not good indicators of why you shouldn’t eat certain foods.
Your body, current you, needs the care and support, even if those needs don’t align with how you kept yourself safe in the past.
