Hello friend,
Have you ever felt unsure about whether you’re truly hungry or comfortably full? You’re not alone. Many people in recovery or working toward attuned eating struggle with reading their body’s cues. That’s where the hunger and fullness scale can be a helpful guide.
Recently, a faithful video listener asked me to review what “6-7-8” feels like on the scale, so I thought this was the perfect time to revisit the whole thing. Whether you’re brand new to attuned eating or simply need a refresher, reviewing the hunger and fullness scale is a powerful way to stay grounded and in tune with your body.
What Is the Hunger and Fullness Scale?
The hunger and fullness scale is a simple tool to help you notice and name how your body feels before, during, and after eating. It ranges from extreme hunger to extreme fullness, with several points in between.
Understanding this scale isn’t about perfection. Instead, it’s about building awareness and making small, compassionate adjustments that support your body’s needs.
Why Review the Basics Matters
Even if you’re familiar with the hunger and fullness scale, revisiting it can shed light on why you may be experiencing certain symptoms like:
- Digestive discomfort (GI struggles)
- Energy crashes
- Mood shifts
- Emotional overwhelm around food
Sometimes the basics are exactly what we need to get back on track. Think of it as a gentle reset for both beginners and seasoned attuned eaters.
What Does 6-7-8 Feel Like on the Hunger and Fullness Scale?
This is a common question, and it’s such an important one. Here’s a general guide:
- 6: Pleasantly satisfied. You’ve had enough food to feel content, but not heavy.
- 7: Comfortably full. You feel nourished, grounded, and could walk away from the table without discomfort.
- 8: Starting to feel too full. There may be some heaviness or sluggishness, and your body is signaling it’s time to stop.
Remember, these numbers aren’t rules—they’re guideposts to help you tune into your unique body and recognize patterns. compassion waiting for you.

What If Hunger and Fullness Still Feel Confusing?

The most important thing is—don’t give up. With the right support and compassionate guidance, you can learn to listen to your body again.
