We often believe that if we are not happy, something is wrong. However, I have found that getting to a more positive place is about letting go of how we think things should be and allow ourselves to learn from what is and appreciate the season of life you are in, which can bring more happiness.
For example, it has taken me nearly 4 years to surrender to the idea and reality that I cannot keep up the same pace with my work (which I dearly love) and be the mom I want to be (which I dearly love). So I had been trying to do everything at the pace I did before I had my daughter, which was just not realistic. I began to miss out on the moments of work and home that made me happy because it wasn’t the way I thought it should look.
Until I finally realized that I did have potential for happy all around me and I had to be willing to accept it in the form it took.
This story is often like the story of how we struggle with food. There are very good reasons we might struggle with food, but to have the peace we desire, we must realize that our happiness is not going to begin with a smaller pants size. It can start right now with appreciating and caring for the good we do have.
Whether it be food and weight concerns, or other areas of your life, where have your shifts towards happiness arisen?
Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you realized that your happiness was an internal choice that could be made despite your outside circumstances?
Q: How do you remind yourself that happiness is always within and catch your footing in those whirlwind moments of life that can throw us off balance?
Q: What is your personal definition of happiness today?
Q. Share three things that bring you happiness.
Thanks to my friend, Publisher Linda Joy, for these inspiring questions! I invite you to share how you choosing happiness moment in the comments below.
