Where do we go when we’re feeling activated with our food, our body or our movement?
How do the food recovery basics help us on our journey?

Have you ever felt that you didn’t know how to move forward in your recovery journey? Has the feeling of being stuck felt so overwhelming that you didn’t know which way to go? What are we to do in those moments?
Instead of throwing in the towel all together or over-reaching or under-reaching with our food or movement…
Let’s go back to the basics in food recovery.
I will be the first person to tell you that to not diet is hard. Some days it’s overwhelming. Some days we can feel that we’re finally getting a handle on it.
But when the days of overwhelm feel more often than not – we can begin to think that we really have no idea what we’re doing. Anyone else been there before (or are maybe there right now!)?
When we find ourselves in that place, I always tell people to go back to the basics.
The absolute basics of human life are water, food, shelter, sleep.
Are there any places within those 4 that you can adjust and find agency within?
My belief is that if you’re able to start at the most basic place, you can then move your way up to the move nuanced areas within recovery.
So…if you’re sensing that you’re feelings are activated and you’re wanting to binge or purge, remember this.
What is the most basic need I can meet right now? And then go from there.
When I ask people what they need right now – many don’t have any idea. So what do we do when we don’t know what we need? Go back to the basics.
When you’re feeling hungry, angry, lonely, tired, in a fog and you don’t know what to do (and these feelings activate you), it can be easy to make what you’re feeling be about the food or your body. This causes us to under or over-reach for food or with movement. Here’s what you can do instead…
