We all have expectations. About everything. And we all know what expectations do when not fulfilled – they leave us frustrated, disappointed, sad, angry and a whole array of other emotions.

Often times, especially in diet culture, we are told things or have preconceived ideas about what things like knowledge, food and movement can offer.

As we move forward on this journey of body positive and attuned eating, it is important that we recognize these expectations that we have and find middle ground and give ourselves space.

WHAT FOOD CAN & CANNOT DO

What are your expectations with food? Are you left feeling frustrated, disappointed, or any other emotion around what you think food should be able to do for you? Many of these expectations were centered around what diet culture was telling me should be instead of listening to what my body was saying.

HOW TO NOT BE DECEIVED REGARDING MOVEMENT

Exercise programs can falsely make you believe that if you do the program. you’ll look a certain way and will never have any problems. The reality is, movement is a gift and all of us have different levels of movement ability. Rather than using movement to numb ourselves, set a goal with your body of something that you would like to achieve.

ARE YOU CONNECTING AND ACTING?

Many people are consuming a lot of information about attuned eating, being positive and many other topics as we crowd out the body-phobic, diet culture information we’ve all been taught. An issue I see is that people aren’t talking to someone 1-1. They have a lot of head knowledge but there is a gap between knowing and the connecting of taking action on that knowledge. In this video, I want to challenge you to take action on the knowledge that I present to you in these videos.

P.S. To dive in with me and those doing this nuanced work in a way you feel lovingly heard but also learn to take action consider joining my Peaceful Eating Facebook community.
